EHerkenning is continuously being further developed. New, additional functionalities are issued in the form of releases.
Are you a service provider? Select the release you need. Your eHerkenning broker can assist you if necessary.
Check of identity and authority
EHerkenning provides:
- digital recognition (authentication)
- checks on digital authority (authorisation) of individuals wishing to purchase a service online on behalf of an organisation.
It gives users access to your service. This is the core functionality of eHerkenning
Additional functionalities
In addition to this core functionality, there are also additional functionalities. You are free to choose whether or not to implement these functionalities. You must be signed up to the correct release of eHerkenning.
In addition to the Chamber of Commerce number, eHerkenning also provides the company name of the intermediary. The second added functionality is intended to simplify the management and use of chain permissions in the future. The release does not affect the eHerkennings interface change.
As well as being suitable for use for you as a service provider, eHerkenning can also be used across borders. eHerkenning enables users to log in to government service providers within the EEA, who offer European login services.
As a service provider, based on this functionality, you can use eHerkenning to identify sole traders on the basis of their BSN. This allows sole traders to securely register an authorisation.
How it works
The citizen service number is used as the identifying characteristic according to a secure, encrypted process. This is achieved via the link with the BSN, the access register and the BSN authorisation list.
For each service, you can specify which identifying characteristics (Chamber of Commerce number, RSIN, BSN for sole traders) you wish to receive. For example, you can opt to request the RSIN number if no Chamber of Commerce number is available. All this takes place in the background, without affecting your user; the user is not required to log in more than once.
About the release
This release was specially developed at the request of the Tax and Customs Administration and Employee Insurance Agency (UWV) to enable the identification of sole traders based on a citizen service number (BSN).
Using this release, sole traders can also register chain authorisations. This enables an intermediary to act on behalf of a sole trader.
How it works
The citizen service number (BSN) is used as the identifying characteristic according to a secure, encrypted process.
Using this release, service providers are issued with the citizen service number (BSN) of a person with a foreign login means, who logs in via eIDAS according to a secure, encrypted process.
The person logging in must have a BSN registration in the Netherlands.
Using this release, you as a service provider can sign up to the eIDAS infrastructure. The process is conducted by an eHerkenning broker. As a result, you comply with the European obligations.
eIDAS regulation
The European eIDAS Regulation came into effect in September 2018. This regulation demands that European citizens and businesses be able to log in to Dutch service providers, with their own login means.
The portal function makes it possible for you to create a user-friendly personalised portal for your clients.
At a glance, your clients can see for which services they are authorised, within your organisation. Your clients can then access these services with a single login.
Optional functionalities
The Trust Framework for Electronic Identification also offers optional functionalities. These functionalities are made available in response to sufficient demand from service providers and the approved eHerkenning brokers.
